Teacher Professional Development
Local area teachers gain valuable hands-on training through Oak Crest’s science teacher professional development workshops and other opportunities, funded primarily through its role with the Pasadena City College/Glendale Community College Career Technical Education Community Collaborative grant.
These workshops are free and focus on giving teachers knowledge about specific scientific topics and providing ideas and lesson plans for hands-on activities the teachers can use to teach these subjects. Recent workshop topics have included California geology, physics, HIV/AIDS, electrochemistry, and nanotechnology.
These unique learning opportunities allow K-12 teachers to go back to their classrooms empowered with new knowledge and support that will enable them to engage their students with cutting-edge scientific knowledge, hands-on curricula, and a fresh perspective for years to come.
