Oak Crest was established in 1998 with the goal of providing an academic science research environment accessible to students from a wide range of educational levels: high school to post graduate. It is Oak Crest’s vision that a small, intimate research institute could be highly complementary to established institutions of higher education in conducting rigorous, relevant science research while broadening the participation of underrepresented groups (by race, ethnicity, gender, and socioeconomic standing) in science.
Today, Oak Crest serves as a valuable resource to local educators, students, and schools. Through its outreach programs, Oak Crest enhances science education in its community, working to increase science literacy, engagement, career interest and preparedness among students in the Greater Los Angeles area.
Educational outreach programs at Oak Crest from 2007 – 2015 have included:
Today, Oak Crest is considered to be a valuable resource to the residents–individual, municipal, and commercial–of Pasadena and its surrounding cities. Oak Crest serves as a catalyst within the local community to increase science literacy and awareness of research by direct interaction of Oak Crest scientists with the community through seminars, workshops, and other programming.
