Hello, my name is Alyssa Renskers and I am interested in a summer 2021 internship as well as a
research position after I graduate in May of 2022. As an undergraduate student in biology at
Brandeis University, I have the necessary academic background to make quality contributions in
the laboratory. Having taken classes such as Molecular Mechanisms of Disease and Repairing
and Editing the Genome, I have found my main interests to be in human diseases. I have also
worked to create a model for congenital cataracts in Escherichia coli and analyzed how
mutations in the Lys2 and Lys5 genes affect lysine biosynthesis in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
Currently, I am taking a no-credit course through my school’s library on using R with the goals
of becoming proficient in statistical analysis. I plan to be done with the course by summer.
After graduating from Brandeis, I plan to work in a laboratory for a period of one to two years
before returning to school to earn my doctorate degree. With this degree, I hope to do my own
research to battle unmet medical needs in the world. Thank you for your interest and feel free to
contact me with any questions through LinkedIn!
