Upward Bound: Pasadena City College

Every summer Oak Crest has hosted high school students who are enrolled in the Pasadena City College Upward Bound Program. Each year a group has spent 5 weeks working on microbiology projects.

In 2022, the group isolated bacteria from locally acquired soil samples, and then used biochemical tests to identify selected bacteria.

Upward Bound is one of the four federally-funded TRIO programs hosted at Pasadena City College. Upward Bound strives to give students from first generation, low-income backgrounds the tools and the opportunity to attend college.
