Research Associate @ Invizyne Technologies

Position and Scope

INvizyne Technologies, located in Monrovia, CA, has developed a proprietary cell-free enzyme platform to produce bulk and specialty chemicals from renewable feedstocks. INvizyne has demonstrated that its platform technology can be used to convert low-cost inputs into commodity chemicals used as flavors and fragrances, bioplastic, fuels, and therapeutics. Invizyne is leading the charge to enable a paradigm shift in renewable chemical production. With substantial private funding, in addition to multi-million dollar government grants supporting our research, Invizyne is poised to optimize and expand our platform into new markets and capabilities.
We are seeking a Research Associate to join our dynamic team with experience in strain engineering (microbial) and molecular biology (cloning/plasmid construction, library generation). The Research Associate will work alongside our team of expert protein scientists in a fast-paced environment to produce, isolate, and characterize new and established enzymes from recombinant sources that are part of Invizyne’s platform. Additionally, the Research Associate will work with team members to optimize, and scale enzyme production systems in microbial hosts. The ideal candidate will have experience with yeast engineering, recombinant protein expression (yeast, E. coli), affinity chromatography, and enzyme assays.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Genetic manipulation of yeast strains for production of recombinant proteins at research scale
  • Purification of recombinant proteins at research scale and greater from yeast and/or other microbial systems
  • Characterize purified proteins using standard analytical methods (e.g. SDS-PAGE)
  • Characterize proteins in biochemical assays (e.g. spectrophotometric, HPLC, GC, etc)
  • Perform standard molecular biology techniques such as cloning, PCR, mutagenesis, etc. as needed
  • Maintain a safe and efficient work environment
  • Keep up to date records of experimental results and write reports and SOPs as needed
  • Actively participate in discussions and collaborate with team members

Skills and Experience

  • BS with 3+ years’ experience or MS with 1+ years’ experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, chemical engineering or related fields; industry experience preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with recombinant protein expression in Pichia pastoris preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with current cloning and DNA manipulation techniques
  • Knowledge and experience with analytical techniques (e.g. electrophoresis, UV/Vis spectroscopy, HPLC, GC, etc.)
  • Highly organized, adept in managing logistical challenges and streamlining high-throughput processes
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Personal Attributes

  • Entrepreneurial spirit and self-starter
  • Is a team player and likes working with others
  • Excellent communication skills: written, verbal, and as a presenter
