TBPS Details and Pricing

Lyme Disease Tick Test (fee: $25)

  • identify tick species.

  • test the tick for the presence of Borrelia burgdorferi, the bacterium that causes Lyme disease.

Disease Panel Tick Test (fee: $75)

  • identify tick species.

  • test the tick for the presence of the most common tick-borne pathogens:
    Borrelia burgdorferi (Lyme disease),
    Babesia microti     (babesiosis),
    Ehrlichia chaffeensis (human monocytic ehrlichiosis),
    Ehrlichia canis (most commonly affecting canines),
    Francisella tularensis (Tularemia), and
    Anaplasma phagocytophilum (HGA).

Quality Assurance Statement

As a Clinical and Public Health Laboratory designated by the California Department of Public Health, Oak Crest Institute of Science takes pride in the integrity of its testing. We only test for tick-borne pathogens after validating our testing methods through a rigorous process. We will not charge a client if we cannot guarantee the validity of the test and will only report results once they have passed our stringent quality control requirements. We reserve the right to refuse testing ticks received in damaged conditions that cannot meet our testing method’s quality control requirements.

Please follow the instructions on the TBPS Order Form:

  • Use tweezers to grab the tick close to the skin and gently pull it out. Try not to squash the tick and make sure you removed the entire tick.

  • DO NOT use tape, alcohol, Vaseline or antibiotic ointment to remove the tick.

  • DO NOT freeze or flatten the tick.

  • Multiple ticks on the same person can be composited and tested in a single test but ticks found on different individuals must be tested individually.

  • Please label the outside of a zip-locked bag containing your tick sample with your name and email address (an address label works best).

  • We accept payment by check and PayPal. Please make the payment to “Oak Crest Institute of Science”, comment/memo “TBPS”

  • Test results will be emailed or sent approximately 2-3 days after receipt. We cannot provide verbal results over the phone.
